YOIK (also luohti, vuelie, leu’dd and juoiggus), is an ancient Sámi way of singing, and is among the oldest folk music genres in Europe. The term to yoik comes from the Sami word juoigat (pronounced "yo-ee-ghat"). The yoik is a unique form of cultural expression for the Sámi people in Sápmi. To read more about yoik, click here.
